Children's RCIA
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) and children.
The program goes from September to May:
- Wednesdays 7:00pm-8:30 for adults (English only)
- Wednesday 6:30pm-7:30 for children (English y Español)
Each year on Holy Saturday during the Easter Vigil, the brothers and sisters are baptized into the Catholic Church. Our Parish welcome all new Catholics through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
What are the steps for the Christian Initiation (RCIA) Process?
Period of Evangelization or Pre-catechumenate: Prior to beginning the RCIA process, an individual comes to some knowledge of Jesus Christ, considers his or her relationship with Jesus Christ and is usually attracted in some way to the Catholic Church. After a conversation with a priest, or RCIA director, the person, known as an "inquirer," may seek acceptance into the Order of Catechumens, through the Rite of Acceptance. The parish assembly affirms this desire and the inquirer becomes a Catechumen.
The Period of the Catechumenate: Could be as long as several years or for a shorter time. It depends on how the person is growing in faith, what questions they encounter along the way, and how God leads them on this journey. During this time, the Catechumens consider what God is saying to them in the Scriptures, what changes in their life they need to make to respond to God's inspiration, and what Baptism in the Catholic Church means. When a Catechumen and the Director and the parish team working with him or her believes the person is ready to make a faith commitment to Jesus in the Catholic Church, the next step is the request for baptism and the celebration of the Rite of Election.
The Rite of Election includes the enrollment of names of all the Catechumens seeking baptism at the coming Easter Vigil. Typically, on the first Sunday of Lent, the Catechumens, their sponsors and families gather at the cathedral church. The Catechumens publicly express their desire for baptism to the diocesan bishop. Their names are recorded in a book and they are called the Elect.
The Period of Purification and Enlightenment leading up to the Easter Vigil during the days of Lent. This is a period of preparation marked by prayer, study, and spiritual direction for the Elect, and prayers for them by the parish communities. The Celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation takes place during the Easter Vigil Liturgy on Holy Saturday when the Elect receives the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. Now the person is fully initiated into the Catholic Church.
The Period of Mystagogy: As a newly initiated Catholic, they continue their formation and education continue in the Period of the Post Baptismal Catechesis. This period continues at least until Pentecost. During the period the newly baptized members reflect on their experiences at the Easter Vigil and continue to learn more about the Scriptures, the Sacraments, and the teachings of the Catholic Church. In addition, they reflect on how they will serve Christ and help in the Church's mission and outreach activities.
Rito de Iniciación Cristian para Adultos (RICA) y niños
Cada Sábado Santo durante la Vigilia Pascual, hermanos y hermanos son bautizados en la Iglesia Católica. Nuestra Parroquia da la bienvenida a todos los nuevos católicos a través del Rito de Iniciación Cristiana (RICA).
Cuales son las etapas de este proceso de Iniciación Cristiana?
Periodo de Evangelización o Pre-catecumenado: Antes de iniciar con el proceso del RICA cada individuo se familiariza con la persona de Jesús, nutre su relación con Cristo y se siente atraído y llamado a la Iglesia Católica. Después de conversar con el sacerdote o director del RICA, la persona busca ser aceptado en la Orden de los Catecúmenos mediante el Rito de Aceptación. La Asamblea parroquial afirma su deseo y el peticionario se convierte en un catecúmeno.
El período del Catecumenado: Puede durar hasta varios años o un corto tiempo. Depende del crecimiento de la persona en su fe y las preguntas que va encontrando a lo largo del proceso. Durante este tiempo los catecúmenos profundizan en la Palabra de Dios y los cambios que implica para su vida y el significado del bautismo cristiano en la Iglesia Católica. Cuando el catecúmeno, el Director y el equipo parroquial consideran que la persona esta lista para hacer un compromiso de fe con Jesús y la Iglesia Católica, el siguiente paso es la petición del bautismo y la celebración del Rito de Elección.
El Rito de Elección incluye la inscripción de los nombres de todos los catecúmenos que habrán de recibir el bautismo en la próxima Vigilia Pascual. Típicamente durante el primer domingo de Cuaresma los catecúmenos y sus padrinos y familiares se congregan en la Iglesia Catedral. Los catecúmenos expresan públicamente su deseo de bautizarse ante el Obispo diocesano. Sus nombres quedan inscritos en el libro y son llamados: Los elegidos.
El Periodo de Purificación e Iluminación se orienta hacia la Vigilia Pascual a través de los días de Cuaresma. Este periodo se caracteriza por la oración, el estudio y la dirección espiritual de los elegidos y la oración que la comunidad parroquial hace por ellos. La celebración de los sacramentos de iniciación se realiza durante la Vigilia Pascual el Sábado Santo cuando los elegidos reciben los sacramentos del Bautismo, Eucaristía y Confirmación. Ahora la persona completa su iniciación dentro de la Iglesia Católica.
El Periodo de la Mistagogia: Como recién iniciado a la vida católica, ellos permanecen en la formación y la educación continua en un período de catequesis después del bautismo. Este periodo continua al menos hasta del día de Pentecostés. Durante este periodo los recién bautizados reflexionan sobre su propia experiencia durante la Vigilia Pascual y continúan reflexionando y aprendiendo sobre la Palabra de Dios, los sacramentos y la doctrina de la Iglesia Católica. Reflexionan, además, sobre los modos en que servirán a Cristo en la misión de la Iglesia.
